How to stick to an exercise routine: 5 Ways that would help you
Do you want to adopt a healthy lifestyle by working out but find it hard to stick to your exercise routine? Then you have come to the right place.
It is indeed true that one of the approaches toward a healthy lifestyle is to have a comprehensive workout routine. There are many good reasons to exercise, including stress release, improving your sleeping pattern, living a vibrant life, to get or stay in a good physical shape, and reducing the risk of getting certain health problems. We see multiple workout videos and get the urge to try them out, because who doesn’t want to lead a healthy life? But what happens is that after a day or maybe two, we find ourselves drifting away from our exercise routine. There are numerous reasons, including workload, busy schedule, lack of motivation, etc. that may shift your attention away from your workout routine. But don’t worry, you are not alone in this; it is completely normal.
There are a few steps that would help you in sticking to your regular exercise routine.
Find the right exercise and make a plan:
If you are like me and you do not like to go to a gym to do exercise, there are many ways to get exercise outdoors or in your own home. Nowadays there are many different types of exercise videos on the Internet and on the television. You might like swimming and go to a swimming pool or join a tennis, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, soccer or any other type of sport club. Find something you really enjoy doing and feel that you can keep up for a longer amount of time.
It is significant to plan out your workout schedule beforehand. Make sure to set it around your jobs, schools, or any other activities. In this way, you will be able to follow your routine without any barricades. Mostly, people shift away from their workout routines due to other responsibilities that come in their way. But by planning out your schedule in advance, you will be able to carry on with your daily exercise. And make a plan that works for you and is achievable for you. Do not compare yourself with others who might exercise every day or several times per week. If that is not feasible for you or you just do not want to exercise that often, that is perfectly fine. Every step in the right direction counts and everybody is different and live different lives.
Take little steps:
You don’t have to go to extremes on your first day. Take baby steps and start with simple exercises because you wouldn’t want to injure yourself or be de-motivated. What happens is that people put in all their efforts working hard at the gym for a week or two, and then end up getting discouraged when they can’t do a perfect push-up. So it is highly recommended to start slowly and then gradually increase your work according to your strengths and progress.
Do various exercises:
You can always try distinct types of workouts to spice things up and make them interesting. Try exercising various muscle groups or hop on the elliptical machine for some cardio workout.
You can also try lifting weights or try out simple workout moves. In this way, you will always have something new to look up to, and that would keep you motivated
Keep a company:
It is always good to bring along a friend with you or ask them to join as well. A workout partner will always do the work to lure you back on your exercise routine when you feel like giving up. It’s easier to ditch a day or two at the gym, but with your friend who awaits you, it will always act as a motivator to bring you back on track.
Keep a track:
Set a couple of goals and then keep track of your progress. In this way, you will know how far you have reached and how much more you need to work to achieve your workout goals; this would always motivate you.
Lastly, remember that it takes months to see a real change. Even if you lose a pound, then it means that you are progressing towards success. Try to have patience; this would definitely help you in sticking to your workout routine. It is normal to feel de-motivated at times; everyone has been there and felt it. Even the highly motivated people grapple with days when they don’t feel like hitting the gym, but what implies is how you cope with it and restrain it from intruding your exercise routine.
